If you invested in a quality poker table you certainly want it to last as long as possible. There are a few simple and easy things you can do to maximize the longevity of your investment.
1. Lift Your Table Fully When Moving. This may sound obvious but poker tables can be very heavy. Sometimes people try and scoot their table with the bottom of it resting on the ground. This might be fine if the surface is carpet, but it is extremely easy to catch a something like a carpet nail or other incidental item on the rail. If something catches the padded rail it can be scuffed or worse torn.
2. Buy a cover. For less than 2 deluxe pizzas you can buy a poker table cover that will fit your table exactly. The cover will prevent lint dust and other items that can get embedded into the felt and give it a worn and used look. A simple cover will keep it looking fresh in between sessions.
3. Scotch Guard. We all have one of those guys in our group that can’t get with the program and is prone to spilling something. Using a protective sealant will diminish the effects of accidents on the table. Another options is to upgrade to suited speed felt or get a table with a removable surface.
4. Don’t Smoke at the Table. Probably not as much of an issue today, but poker tables and cigarettes don’t mix. The railing and felt used today are not very tolerant of cigarette or cigar burns.
If you follow these few simple steps you are on your way to getting many more years out of your table.
